There was a time, not so long ago, when many of audio professionals sold away their analogue studio equipment. Of course, I was one of them. About six years ago I got rid of everything but the computer, audio interface, digital mixer and monitors. And soon my digital mixer was sold too.
At the same time I dropped off all the recording business that I had done about ten years and began concentrating only on mixing and mastering. Pro Tools... you might think. No, it wasn´t that. Since Sound Designer II and MasterList CD I haven´t really used DigiDesign´s software much. Why? Because you can do the same things and maybe even more with Apple Logic, Steinberg Cubase, Nuendo or any other audio sequencer, which all cost much less than Pro Tools. And I couldn´t imagine working on Pro Tools LE because of the restricted amount of audio tracks.
I´ve been using Logic since the version 2.5 and I have to say that I´m still quite happy of choosing it for my main mixing tool. Now I´m using version 7.2 and thinking of upgrading it to Logic Studio. Many of audio professionals and especially mastering engineers are partly going back to analogue equipment. I´m still happy to do my mixes completely digitally.
